The blood vessels in the adult human body have a length of about 100,000 km (or ~60,000 miles).

The usual living span for humans is 115 years. It is very rare indeed that a person gets older, about only one in more than two billion.

Lack of sleep can result in increased appetite and with it excess weight gain. So, if you want to lose weight, start with getting more sleep (as the easy part).

For getting sleep, our core body temperature has to sink, although by less than 1/2 degree. Older people often have trouble with sleeping because their body needs more time for cooling down.

Some people (particularly babies) can sleep with their eyes open.

Without sleep people can die after a rather short time. In 1964 an American went without sleep for 11 days, the longest recorded time until now.

Humans blink about 25,000 times a day on average.

On an average, a woman blinks even more than a man, almost twice as often.

The human eye does not grow during its whole life but human nose and ears grow continuously though very slowly.

Men can read finer print than women.

Men are far more colour blind than women, almost 10 times as much.

Women can hear better than men (maybe not always).

Headphones are a health hazard. By wearing them for an hour the bacteria in your ear can multiply to about 700 times!

Human bones don’t last long; their tissue is continually destroyed and replaced bit by bit with the result that means that the whole skeleton is renewed about every seven years.

There are about 100,000 hairs on the average human head usually has more than 100,000 hairs. People with very fine hair have even more, namely up to 200,000 hairs.

Human (and probably most animal) hair grows more quickly in winter than in summer. probably because of less light, a trick by nature to keep us warmer.

Hair grows everywhere on the outside of the human body apart from our eyelids, our lips, the soles of our feet, the palms of our hands and on our hand and footnails.

Human lungs have a total surface area about the size of a tennis court. They contain about 300 billion capillaries, their combined length several thousand km long.

The most active muscles are the eye muscles. They contract more about 100,000 times during a 24- hour day.

The eye muscles are also the fastest ones with contraction times of less 1/100th of a second.

For functioning properly, the human brain needs more than 25% of the oxygen used by the whole body.

The energy our brain needs is only about 12 watts.

The human brain consists of about 80% water and only 20% other matter.

The brain works better after aerobic exercise (like brisk walking, jogging, cycling, swimming etc.).  Such activities can improve the brain structure by increasing connections between neurons in part of the brain.

The storage in our brain is based on different patterns the nerve cells form for functioning. Their number is almost infinite, namely a 1 with about 800 zeros, far far more than the number of atoms in our universe.

When using a mobile phone, we get some radiation into our brains, causing molecule vibrations and higher temperature of some brain tissue for a while.

A Japanese is said the hold the world record for recalling the longest number of Pi from memory, namely 1000 decimal places.

There are billions of living organism on your skin, more than all people in the world.

About 10% of all people are left-handed. However, the proportion of left hand participants in NASA’s Apollo Space Program was about 1 in 4, that is 25%.

A scientific survey in a hospital Boston has come to the surprising conclusion, people with natural blond hair are far more likely to be left-handed than people with dark or red hair.

Science has also found that on average right hand people live about nine years longer than left hand people.

Fear of spiders is unjustified in most cases. It is been found that the likelihood is greater to get killed by a champagne cork than by a poisonous spider.

Sharks are dangerous if attacking. But did you know that it is more likely to be by coconuts than shark?

Some Eskimos use fridges for storing their food to keep it from freezing.
